Let’s say you face a difficult problem at work, and although you analyze it as thoroughly as you can, you can’t find a solution for any reason. Do you know what Steve Jobs would do in your position? Something very simple and very effective according to his words. He would apply, what today some characterize as “Steve Jobs’ ten-minute rule”.
What is this rule
What did he do? He would get up from his seat and go for a walk.
“A long walk was his preferred way of having a serious conversation,”
says Jobs biographer Walter Isaacson.
“We spent endless time together walking without talking”,
recalls legendary designer Jony Ives. Meanwhile, no matter what profile or book you read about Jobs, you will always find it written somewhere that he spent much of his time walking around barefoot!

This habit of Jobs was not only related to his love for the outdoors or physical exercise. The late Apple boss sensed something that neuroscience is now proving; that walking makes our brains work a little better, helping us solve problems that sitting would remain unsolved puzzles. According to him, a ten-minute walk was enough for him to think more calmly or even better to clear his head so that he could see the given problem more clearly.
What the experts say
It is worth noting that there is a scientific explanation behind Jobs’ theory. According to the experts, as the body moves, so does the way it “moves” and therefore our brain thinks.
