The lithium-ion batteries used in cell phones, laptops, and even electric cars are not perfect and tend to degrade over time.

You should know that the wireless charger you probably use at night creates excessive heat, which accelerates the degradation of your phone’s battery. The same goes for fast charging. This means that charging your phone properly is practically impossible.

While some tips can extend the life of your phone’s battery, there’s nothing you can do about the limitations of the lithium-ion batteries in your devices. They all eventually stop holding a charge, which means they’ll need to be replaced.

So it’s no wonder there are so many tips and tricks for charging your phone. If you do it right, you can overcome your battery’s weaknesses and not only hold a charge longer but also extend the battery’s overall lifespan.

To optimize battery life, you should ideally keep your phone between 20 and 80 percent charged in a room with a temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius at all times.

If your battery is too empty or too full, too hot or too cold, it will degrade faster. And when you charge it, you shouldn’t overdo it with a very powerful adapter, as this can heat up the battery and cause it to degrade.

The good news is that despite the many myths surrounding proper charging techniques, your phone, laptop, and even your electric car are designed to compensate for the shortcomings of lithium-ion battery technology.

If you’re really concerned about your battery’s health, avoid fast charging or charging overnight, and don’t leave your phone in the sun.
