Viber Communities; the New Virtual Chat Room Service from Viber

Viber’s messaging application announced the new virtual chat room service with the potential of a billion members.

Viber announced the launch of Viber Communities and is the first messaging application to create a virtual group chat room where up to a billion users can exchange messages and content of all kinds. Today, group conversations are limited to hundreds or thousands of members, but Viber far exceeds this limit and gives users the unique ability to connect to massive global communities that we have not seen before in the messaging industry – up to one billion users in a group conversation.

With roles that have graduated privileges and powerful tools, Community administrators have everything they need to manage, engage and develop active large-scale groups around common interests, experiences, discussion topics, and more – all within the familiar user interface of the messaging service. Viber will also present new revenue generating features that will allow community owners to create revenue models for their communities as they develop them.

New members in a community have access to the full community history and can contribute to the conversation with all of Viber’s messaging features such as GIF, stickers, images, videos and, of course, plain text. By keeping Viber’s commitment to privacy and user safety, only members’ names appear in Communities and their phone numbers are not visible to other members.

Superadmins control the roles of community members – they have the ability to add members and upgrade them to admin or superadmin, ban comments or block members, decide who can participate in conversations and who have the right to invite new members in the community. Superadmins can further develop a community by activating a sharing link or undoing this feature at any time. They can also enable revenue generating capabilities, in line with the community’s policy and goal, and with Viber’s support.

Superadmins can also assign admin roles to other members to help manage and unhindered conversations by choosing to delete one or all of the messages sent by any member or to “pin” messages to guide the conversations. Admins can add or remove members when needed.

Selected collaborators have already activated the first Viber Communities. The Olympique de Marseille football team gives friends of the team unique opportunities to chat with the club’s stars and management. The company for creating and distributing sports content, Minute Media, manages Viber Communities to give voice to sports enthusiasts. OverDrive, the digital content lending service, uses Viber Communities to manage local US public library libraries.

As announced, the gradual development of Viber Communities has already begun at international level.
