Google announced Wednesday that it will make several of its photo editing tools based on “generative AI” free to all “Google Photos” users. The company said in a blog post that starting May 15 and over the coming weeks, it will expand access to AI-powered editing features previously only available on “Pixel phones” and through its subscription storage service. in the “Google One cloud”.
“Google Photos'” AI features include ‘Magic Eraser’, which removes unwanted objects from photos, ‘Photo Unblur’, which sharpens out-of-focus images, and ‘Portrait Light’, which can restore the lighting balance of a photograph.
Google said the expansion will also bring these features to more devices, including “Pixel tablets”. “Google OS” desktop users must use a “Chromebook Plus” with “ChromeOS” version 118+ or have at least 3GB of RAM, while mobile users must use “Android 8.0” or “iOS 15” or newer version, Google said.
As part of next month’s rollout, Google is also extending access to the ‘Magic Editor’ feature to all ‘Pixel’ devices. All “Google Photos” users on “Android” and “iOS” will receive 10 “Magic Editor” photo saves per month, according to the announcement. “Pixel” device users and premium “Google One” subscribers who pay for 2TB of storage will get unlimited storage.
The “Magic Editor” tool, which was released with the “Pixel 8” and “Pixel 8 Pro” last fall, uses “generative AI” to produce various photo edits, such as repositioning subjects, removing objects, or changing of the color of the sky, while at the same time creating new images that fill in the gaps.
