A French team of nanorobotic engineers used a new micro robotic-system to create the smallest home in the world.
Researchers used a focused ion beam, a tiny robot, a microscope, and other nanostructure technologies inside a vacuum chamber to build a Nano home, where even mites do not fit.
Researchers at the Femto-ST Institute in Besancon, led by Jean-Jacques Ross, have published their work in Journal of “Vacuum Science and Technology A”.
The Nano system of construction is called Robotex and operates with an accuracy of the order of two nanometers (billionths of a meter). The tiny house, made up of a fiber of width as much as about a human hair, that is, 75 microns, has a width of 20 microns and has doors, windows and a sloping roof.
The researchers said they hope to further push the boundaries of this technology, building even smaller structures on carbon nanotubes of 20 to 100 nanometer diameter.
