Google calculates the number of usernames in the black market

Google’s calculations speak for 1.9 billion usernames that are in the black market for malicious use.

Google has collaborated with the University of Berkeley to estimate the number of usernames that are traded on the black market, and it is estimated that 25% of these usernames can be used to illegally enter a Google account instead of the legitimate holder of that username. Through the careful exploitation of the data that one can derive from a user’s stolen username, he could take full control of the Google account with what it entails.

Such surveys show in the most clear way how imperative is the need for more security measures on the part of users. One of the most effective methods is to use a password manager or use a carefully selected password with many different characters to make it difficult for someone to enter an account without the legitimate owner knowing it. Of course, the practice of two factor authentication is also a useful method for shielding sensitive personal data.
