Garmin, a company well-known for the navigation solutions it has presented from time to time, attempts to re-change the rules of this market by introducing Garmin Speak.
It is essentially a navigation device in which the large touchscreen for input and display of data is replaced by Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant. The Speak screen is much smaller, about 1.5 inches in diameter and with OLED technology, showing only the arrows of direction. All other instructions are given to the driver vocally, while Alexa undertakes to inform the driver with useful information such as where the nearest gas station is located.
At the same time, the Garmin Speak works just like the other Alexa devices: the driver can ask and get answers about news, weather, street traffic, etc. In addition, if the owner of Speak also has smart home appliances, he can control them through the device eg. check the smart lock or check if the oven that bakes the food has switched off.

Another interesting Speak feature is for those traveling alone, without a co-driver. In these cases, Garmin Speak undertakes to “play” with the driver various games or read audiobooks to keep company to the driver.
The set up of the device is also quite simple. After downloading the free Garmin Speak application to any smartphone, the Garmin Speak is connected via Bluetooth and takes advantage of the smartphone’s access to data. However, and through Speak, the driver can access his cell phone without using his hands, for example. to answer or reject calls.
Garmin Speak is available in the US via Amazon or Garmin for $150.
