The Greek non-profit company “SciFy” has developed the new free application “Di’Anoia” (“διΆνοια”), aimed at caregivers of people with dementia, as well as healthcare professionals, providing a wealth of knowledge and simple techniques of non-pharmaceutical interventions.
At the same time, the app, available for Android mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), is useful for practicing the cognitive skills of people with either mild cognitive disorder with significant deficits or incipient dementia.
The application allows relatives and other caregivers of people with dementia to learn and apply simple non-pharmaceutical techniques to caregivers, either at home or non-specialized dementia structures such as KAPI.
“Di’Anoia” offers mental exercises ready for use by the patients themselves and suggests activities that caregivers can do with patients.
The application describes analytically the interventions, gives clear instructions, examples, printable material and video.
It is the first time in Greece that such an application has been developed to spread valuable knowledge, with the aim of improving the quality of life and functionality of people with dementia.
The application code, designed with the scientific editorship of the “Athens Alzheimer’s Society”, is freely available on “GitHub” so that those who want can further develop it.
The “Di’Anoia” project is being implemented by “SciFy” under the “Support Points” program, co-funded by the “TIMA Public Benefit Foundation”, the “John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation”, the “Hellenic Hope” charity and the “Bodossakis Foundation”.
“Di’Anoia” is part of “SciFy ‘s” design for a global intervention in the field of dementia, with the creation of other relevant “tools” in the future.
