Netflix, HBO and 28 other companies have created an alliance that aims to fight online piracy.
The alliance of the 30 major artists and entertainment distributors is called ACE, a name derived from the phrase Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment.
ACE also includes other vocal names other than Netflix and HBO, such as Amazon and Twentieth Century Fox. The purpose of this alliance is to reinforce research into online anti-piracy techniques in cooperation with the Authorities.
One can not say for sure whether the new alliance will be able to hurt Internet piracy, which seems to continue to flourish.
Both Netflix and Disney have experienced attacks and theft of content, with Netflix noting that in April 2017, a hacker managed to steal a season of “Orange is the new black” and would make it available if he did not get what he was asking for as a ransom.
ACE estimates that last year there were 5.4 billion downloads of pirated content in movies and series.
It is worth noting that the creation of the new alliance comes after the failure of similar moves by other actors in the US and elsewhere.
