During the “Google I/O 2021” conference last May, the company introduced a new technology called “Multitask Unified Model (MUM)”, which enhances the possibilities for more complex search.

In September he made a demo of “MUM”, for simultaneous image and text search through the “Google Lens” tool; and now is able to start its wider testing.

Specifically, users in the US can try advanced image and text search through the “Google” application for “Android” and “iOS” devices. Clicking on the “Google Lens” tool icon can select an image and then clicking on “Add to your Search” a new field appears, where they can either ask for something related to the image, or enhance the search by adding written terms.

Google says this will make it easier for users who may not know what to say about what they want to search for, but also for those who get much more general search results based on text alone. For example, if you search for a striped jacket, you are more likely to get very general images of what you have in mind. But if you add an image from a specific company to your search, then the search engine will be much more accurate.

According to “Techgear”, the tests of the “MUM” technology will continue for a few months and then its general launch is expected worldwide.
