Hundreds of apps and games you download on your smartphone through Google Play and the App Store are most likely to spy on you and are not so innocent.
According to a New York Times report, many of them use a software called “Alphonso”, which allows sounds to be recorded through the mobile’s microphone.
In fact, as newmoney.gr transmits, recording is possible even when the mobile is not in use, it is in the user’s pocket or the application “runs” on the background.
According to the report, about 1,000 games and social applications use the software. About 250 of these are available through Google Play and a smaller number via the App Store. Some of these, also for children, are Pool 3D, Beer Pong, Trickshot, Real Bowling, Strike 10 Pin and Honey Quest.
The software “silently” gathers information about the user’s TV habits and then sells them to advertising companies.
According to the US newspaper, you can find out which applications are using the software by typing “Alphonso automated” and “Alphonso software” on Google Play.
The company claims, however, that the software is not able to record human conversations.
