The updated box -which is expected to be presented to the public, along with the new models of iPhone and Apple Watch, in September- has a faster processor for higher resolution display content. The 4K rating is a quality standard that projects the content at twice the resolution of the established high 1080P resolution. Apple is also testing an upgrade to the TV application that was first released in 2016 and allows viewing of content through applications that already have live streaming.

The new product, as reported by insider.gr, reflects Apple’s ambitions in the video sector where it is behind its rivals Roku, Amazon and Google. Apple TV accounts for only 15% of the set-top box television, according to data released at the end of March. The leading technology company is also behind Amazon and Netflix rivals in series and other video content.

To view 4K videos, users will need to connect the updated Apple TV to a screen with higher resolution content viewing capabilities. A wide range of major manufacturers such as Sony and LG offer this feature.

The flagship Apple is the iPhone from which at least half of its annual revenues come from. In the service sector, the App Store and Apple Music stand out, which contributes 16% of the sales giant’s sales.

To reproduce 4K and HDR content, Apple will have to close agreements with content creators who provide videos in this format. Already has started discussions with cinema studios to provide their 4K publications via iTunes, as sources refer to it. At the same time, she talks with companies that provide their apps through Apple TV. Vevo and Netflix already support 4K content.

At the same time, of course, Apple is also promoting its own content, offering video streams via Apple Music. According to Bloomberg News, the company plans to invest an additional $ 1 billion in producing original video content. In addition to technology, Apple is also investing in talent after hiring Timothy Terald in Apple TV in January. In June, Jamie Erlitt and Jack Oan Ambrog, former presidents of Sony Pictures Television, were also recruited.
