Our whole life now revolves around “Google Maps”. But many times technology leads us down roads of no return.

Blind trust in “Google Maps” is not always for our good. Especially if we are in areas where the roads are strange or quite far from the civilized world.

There are not a few times when we asked Google for help in the Greek mountains and got answers which were most of the time confusing or ready to lead us into entanglements.

And this does not seem to happen only in Greece, but there are increasing reports, all over the world, of drivers who reached the impasse by blindly following “Google Maps”.

Two families who recently took the fastest route suggested by “Google Maps” while traveling through “Corcoran”, California ended up getting stuck in the mud and had to wait through the night for help to arrive.

The group of three car drivers followed the instructions for a faster route, unaware that they were going down a particularly difficult and muddy road.

With no water and forced to eat only watermelon and chips, the drivers contacted the “California Highway Patrol” late at night, only to be told that dispatching help was not possible at that time!

The next day, however, a crane came and managed to get them out. But even so, several of the vehicles that came to help got stuck too!

The problem with apps like “Google Maps” and “Waze” is that they always try to find the shortest route. But this does not mean that they choose the most correct or the safest one, depending on the car that each operator drives, so suddenly someone can find himself in a difficult situation in which he cannot do anything.

This is also the biggest lesson in using these applications. If you are going to move on unfamiliar roads, try to understand if the program’s suggestion is in the right direction and if it is taking you on dangerous and unpaved roads.

If you suspect that something is not to your liking, then avoid following the instructions of “Google Maps” and trust your instincts. You might get a few extra minutes on a paved circuit, but you certainly won’t get into adventures that can cost you hours and spoil your mood.
