Τwitter has announced that it has deleted about 6,000 accounts involved in a manipulation and disinformation operation, orchestrated by Saudi Arabia.
Most of these profiles were written in Arabic and posted “messages in favor of the Saudi authorities”. Some were in English and targeted to western audiences.
Twitter took over to shut down this network in 2018. However, the company only managed to identify the perpetrators this fall and took drastic action in October.
In total, the platform has blocked more than 88,000 accounts engaged in similar practices.
