Facebook announced on Tuesday that it is testing augmented reality ads on its News Feed in view of the US holiday shopping season.
These ads will allow users to interact virtually with different products, from the “trying” (see over them) sunglasses and accessories to the visualization / display of furniture in a room.
According to the company, companies such as Sephora, Bobbi Brown, Pottery Barn, Wayfair and others, will begin to test this new ad concept later in the summer.
As Reuters says, the company has already tested AR ads in its Messenger app and says that participating companies, including Asus and Nike, have found greater interaction with the users who saw them.
Facebook also said it is expanding its Instagram stories shopping worldwide in time for the holiday season, through which users can buy products from online stores through the popular photo sharing application. It also announced that it will launch special video creation kits that will make it easier for advertisers to create mobile-first promotional videos.
“We see the video as the best means of discovering new products”,
explained.
